Read reviews of the 2004 Pluralism in Action program: The Georgetown Voice news article (September 2, 2004) The Georgetown Voice editorial (September 2, 2004) The Student Affairs Newsletter (December 2004) About Pluralism in Action Now in its seventh year, the Pluralism in Action program is an important component of New Student Orientation, in which new students are introduced to the value of pluralism at Georgetown University, and encouraged to explore and understand the complexity of living in this diverse community. Pluralism in Action brings all new students together to attend a program highlighting the variety of ways in which issues of diversity may surface during a students’ Georgetown experience. Following the program, new students participate in small dialogue sessions co-facilitated by teams of faculty and students. The Pluralism in Action performance debuted in August 2004, and has quickly become one of the most anticipated parts of this program. Drawing from the admissions essays of incoming students, the Pluralism performance is a blended monologue of new students’ experiences, impressions, aspirations and beliefs, told in their own voices. The program is staged in McDonough Arena, and performed by upper class students and members of the University community. You won’t want to miss this chance to hear the the voices of the class of 2010! Pluralism in Action facilitators are central to the success of this program. Facilitators help provide an environment in which students are able to explore their expectations, and examine critically the complexities and responsibilities of learning and living in a diverse community. Facilitators also help students understand the expectation that open, honest dialogue is a preferred means to addressing these complexities within the Georgetown community, consistent with the Jesuit ideals upon which the institution was founded.
